Each season of the year offers different attractions in Puerto Vallarta, especially if it comes those that come from nature. Once the summer has arrived, the intense rains make their appearance in the afternoons and evenings in Vallarta, a situation that favors the presence of a millenarian visitor: the sea turtle.

There are several species that reach the beaches of Puerto Vallarta to nest and try to perpetuate their species: brown, leatherback, hawksbill and olive ridley. The last one is the most common in our latitudes.

From July to December, the olive ridley turtle literally returns to his home. And it is that each one of the specimens that nest in our beaches, does it for a very special reason: they are the beaches that saw it being born. In this way, the eggs deposited by the turtles on a summer night and that have the opportunity to reach adulthood, will return years later to continue with their life cycle.

It is estimated that only 1 egg out of 100 will reach adulthood, so it is very important to respect them at all times. This, coupled with the ravenous depredation that the human historically has caused, has led them to be in danger of extinction.

Any time you find a turtle in the process of spawning, do not bother her, respect her natural activity and notify the authorities. With this you will contribute to these beings continuing to return home, to which they arrived long before us.

Once the incubation time of the eggs has passed, it is time for the birth and release of the small turtles, which is a highly inspiring activity that you can perform under the supervision of the authorities.

Come and participate, wishing them luck in their journey and a prompt return home!
